Background Felice (that means 'happy' - and he really is!) and I met on holiday in Greece, August 2002. We became friends and kept in touch despite neither of us speaking the same language! I often wonder how we managed to continue our relationship with so many obvious barriers from the outset. Combined with the cultural differences and the fact that we lived in different countries, the negative aspects were incredibly clear. But somehow, with a bit of careful balancing and understanding, we managed to find a way to make it work. We spent a year and a half travelling between the UK and Italy spending short amounts of time together whenever possible. However it soon became evident that at some stage one of us was going to have to take a leap of faith by moving to another country in order for us to continue being together. Therefore after much consideration and planning, I decided that it would be me, I would move to Italy. It hasn't been easy, but step by step I am coming to terms with living in a new country and all that I find strange about it. You can read more about how it felt to leave the UK for a new life by reading The Last Thing I Expected. My new home is in Trani, a picturesque port town on Italy's south east coast. Click on The Italy Files to read about some of the things that have happened to me since I arrived.
