Upsetting a neighbour

I had hand washed a couple of jumpers that I hadn't dared put through the washing machine just in case they shrank in size.  As it was a lovely day, I hung them outside where they were sure to dry in no time. I came back inside and was busy doing a few other bits and pieces, having a relaxing time of it when all of a sudden the buzzer on the door went.  Who on earth could that be, I thought?  Feeling slightly worried as I was probably going to be faced with someone muttering away in Italian leaving me looking at them in a confused manner.  Naturally that was exactly what happened when I opened the door.  Why had Felice chosen that moment to nip to the supermarket!?  I opened the door to the lady from the apartment below who has very big hair and a nice face.  She broke out into some kind of dialogue which I surprised myself by catching the gist of.  She was referring to my washing that was drying outside and as it turned out, was also dripping onto her balcony below leaving a puddle!  I apologised profusely in the best Italian that I could come up with at the time, which turned out to be Scusa and hurriedly put a bucket underneath the offending items of clothing and swept away the remainder of the water!  I'm just grateful the neighbour was nice about it.  Since then I have made sure I'm extra careful when hanging out clothes that have been hand washed!
